Dais Lounge Chair
Client: Keilhauer

PROBLEM

In current coworking spaces, it’s challenging to find furniture solutions that are both relaxing and functional. Achieving high comfort often relies on fossil-based materials.

PROCESS

To address this issue, the project aimed to create a comfortable, agile lounge chair designed for tomorrow’s workspaces with a purposeful use of materials. Inspired by classic veneer bending, the goal was to create comfort without sacrificing any benefits.

Moulding, bending, and machining techniques were utilized to create a shape that follows the human silhouette, rethinking how a lounge chair can function. This approach led to the creation of a three dimensional skew in the backrest. Proving to be a quite complex shape to render a simplistic yet comfortable chair.

The structural parts of the chair were shaped to focus soft materials only where necessary, reducing their use to the essentials. The hollow seat gives a generous impression without over-consumption of material. This resulted in a “hard soft workstation” that meets the needs of modern workspaces.

SOLUTION

The resulting product is a classic-inspired soft work chair. By strategically placing soft materials only where needed, comfort is achieved. This design intends to meet individual needs through its versatility and functionality, catering to quick tasks or deep focus, informal meetings or phone calls, and coffee breaks or relaxation. The chair’s shape and intuitive design ensure comfort and ease of use, while its adaptable features allow it to seamlessly fit into various workspace scenarios.
