BACKGROUND
Lighting often falls into two extremes: specialized fixtures with restricted flexibility or generic solutions that fail to inspire. For architects tasked with designing spaces with various needs, this presents a challenge. Making them often turn to custom solutions that are both time consuming and cost inefficient.

PROCESS
BLOND and Form Us With Love, began a process of creating a lighting system with the intention of merging creative freedom with production efficiency.
By understanding the strengths and untapped potential of the BLOND production line and pairing it with pain points expressed by architects, FUWL and BLOND saw an opportunity.

“BLOND is an expert of components. Specifiers and architects specialise in anticipating what people want and need. There is a lot to gain from listening to their insights and adapting to their input. Because their choices will affect what experiences people will have.”

Boiling down some complex ideas into one cohesive, modular system where each element serves multiple functions gave BLOND and FUWL an approach that keeps production streamlined, reduces material waste, and yet (hopefully) inspires specifiers to adapt the system into a wide range of their own designed applications.

SOLUTION
By focusing on a few, versatile components a framework that allows infinite configurations was created — everything from minimalist desk setups to large-scale chandeliers is possible within the new system.
The result is a new generation of modular lighting. Versatile, efficient, and designed for professionals Catena provides the creative freedom to build lighting solutions tailored to specific environments, whether public or private.
